Its has more lowend but it starts to fall after 4300rpm and that is where the 5.3's peak is around. My vortec 350 put down 326 RWTQ at 3400RPM.At 4300RPM it was around 300RWTQ,my tq curve is farly flat, much flatter than when it was bone stock.

A more fair comparison would be with a 6.0 liter.A 5.3 is not the biggest small- block and is being compared the biggest small block made up till 99.A better comparison would be with a 305 vortec which the 5.3 easily outpowers.A 6.0 is more the 350's size and outpowers it from idle to redline. The newer engines make more power and get better mileage.

down low a 350 has more grunt to me and like said before, it starts to get winded around 4000, 5.3 has less down low, but around 3000 starts to get some power, some ppl like the 5.7 some like the 5.3, personally ill take the extra performance and economy out of the 5.3

One flaw in comparing a 5.7 to a 6.0 is that you can't get a 6.0 in a 1500 LD truck. Sure the 6.0 is better, but if you can't get it in every truck, it only makes sense to compare what you can. I like my 5.7 on take off and normal driving, but the 5.3 is a very nice motor once it gets rolling and on top end. But I don't drive with a lead foot, so the torque at around 4500rpm does me no good. I wish in the next GM truck platform they raise the weight limits to around 9500lbs, then maybe a 6.0 will find it's way into a 1/2 Ton 4x4/2WD. Isn't the new Titan and F150 around 9500lbs? Chris
