In my opinion, that pre-race ceremony was 100x's better than the superbowl halftime show!!! the rocket man cracked me up... they pulled out all the stops for this race. the singing wasn't all that great... but the show had taste and conservatism unlike the mtv shame of our degrading society...

I was in the dark too I guess, I didn't think they actually had invented such a device. I was impressed by it. It must not be all that dangerous because the guy flew in over the heads of people and landed in the thick of it all.

I saw something on TV about the Rocket Packs, the military tried the idea for awhile but gave up because the run times on the thing was under 30 seconds.

i've seen those things on the discovery channel...they've been around for a WHILE actually, but onlyt he creator (or is it his son?) has it. They don't have any plans on 'selling' it so they merely use it for promo stunts (it's also been in the superbowl and the world series) amongst other things. The height distance is limited to about 200 feet or something like that, but they say it's easy enough for a child to control (highly dangerous obviously though)... would be nice to give one a go!

I didn't watch Daytona, but it sounds like you guys are talking about the jet pack that was used in a Bond movie....Eons ago.

 

Also in the opening ceremonies at the LA Olympics.

 

 

BTW....The Bond movie was a Connery Bond. That's how long that jet pack has been around.
