Interesting info for Hoes, Burbs, Lades and Yukons

I have been researching upgrading the factory set up in my 01 Burb. I have the factory sub and tweeters in the D pillars.

I found out the following: There is a small amp behind the glove compartment that acts as a high pass filter and cuts the bass out of the door speakers. It is also zaps a lot of power from the sound signal. It then takes a + from the right and a - from the left and makes a third full range channel which is fed to the sub and tweets.

For about $30 and a couple of hours of time, you can make a bypass so that the door signals are not filtered i.e you get full range to the doors. Apparently this sounds much better than the stock set up and is a cheap fix for the lack of bass until you get the dough to add amps. I plan to put Infinity 652s in the 4 doors and run this bypass to see what shakes before I buy some amps.

I did this yesterday and it makes the truck sound a lot better. If you're looking to get the bass back in your Burban/Hoe with the factory sub, this is the way to do it.

Actually now there's too much bass but at least you can turn it down as opposed to stock where you turn the bass up and nothing happens.

Thanks Burb.....hmmm....it seems kinda.....wirey ?? Is it easier then it is described ?? Lots like there is alot of stuff going on...especially to a 45k dollar vehicle ?!?!!

No it's easy. And if you change your mind, you simply unplug the bypass that you made, plug what's left back together and you have the stock set up. You aren't cutting or changing any of the factory wiring. All the changes are in the harness that you make.

Think of it this way. You have a cable running from your cable box to your TV. You unplug it at the TV and insert a widget that plugs into the TV. The cable wire then plugs into the widget. That's exactly how this works.

Hey, does this also work for a 04 Yukon? I've got most of the parts, but want to know if I should even waste my time. Also, just checking behind the glove box didn't show anything resembling the link. There's a tiny little box, but I don't think it's an amp.

I tried to do this little tweak to the 04 Yukon. But there isn't an amp behind the glove box, I'm not sure what it is. I found the amp in the center console. After plugging in this fix, turned on the radio, and NOTHING....

It seems that there are more wires in the original harness than pass through this fix, or am I supposed to connect all the pins in the harness?? I might just be a dumba$$ too...

Anyone with a little info, let me know.... I checked all the wires currently in the harness that I added, and there isn't a conductivity problem...

Well,you have to remember that the stereos are different for '03-'04 than what came in them up to the 2002 year model so their could be a harness difference.

Has anyone performed this tweak, then upgraded the door speakers?

I've ordered the wiring harnesses to perform this bypass and was considering upgrading the 6.5" speakers also, but not unless it makes a difference with the stock head unit....

Ultimately, I want to add the Inifinity Basslink, but for now I'm going to try cheap fixes.
