I have 2015 Silverado Z71 4x4 with bose package head unit and ive tried all 3 of the factory USB ports and have come to the conclusion that Android Auto and Carplay arent installed in our 2015s. I googled it and even the AI stated 2016 was the first year for Chevy Silverados. I'd be interested in finding a work around so I didn't have to replace the entire head unit.

CarPlay is redundant because you already have Bluetooth. I prefer having my phone as my screen for navigation. I’ve found my best vision for seeing the screen is to the left of my steering wheel with my phone mounted via the windshield. I have several vehicles with navigation I don’t use because of glare that I don’t have with my phone. I’ll admit I don’t pay the fees to keep my navigation up to date in my vehicle when I already get live information from my phone. For many years my radio in my vehicles is just been a host for my phone. I pre programmed everything before I get in my vehicle so there’s little distraction. Bluetooth picks it up as soon as I start my vehicle. Pay extra to look at my dashboard instead of my phone. Doesn’t make sense to me.

You are correct, Car Play and Android Auto were introduced in 2016.
Not wireless, but only through a connected USB.
You don't have to replace the head unit.
See here (it ain't cheap but it beats looking at the phone while driving):
