For what I believe is the first time ever, appearently my PC was attacked. I was running Mcafee Firewall a sec agoa nd it said there were unreviewd violations. usually a program was just trying to send out some info or something bu this time is said I was attacked by a "Port Scan Attack" the wierd thing is it said that the attack was from "127.0.0.01" ro sometthing like that which is the same address it "gives" for Internet Explorer. anyone tell me what happened?

127.0.0.1 is your own computer. Chances are mcaffe is reacting to a normal opperation of your compter. Port scanning is a pretty common thing. Your ISP will do it all the time,(or their opperation will show up as a port scan). If you're running a fire wall I wouldn't be worried about it. Software firewalls work pretty well for "script kiddies" but if someone actually wanted on your computer you would never know anyway.

I run Black Ice for a (software) firewall at home, and I get hundreds of port scans every day when I leave the computer on. The script kiddies will move on to easier targets. But if a real cracker wanted in, I'm sure he could get to my porn collection with minimal fuss. That's why there is nothing important stored permanently on my PC, and why it is turned off when I'm not going to be using it.
