Crappy weekend.....

Okay, I decided to go through my brakes this weekend.  They were getting pretty spongy and have prolly never had a full service job done to them.  So I go out and buy pads, and rotors.  Advanced auto(popular around here dunno bout other states)  gave me rotors that were about 1/8 of an inch to thick, take them back...they are for a 3500...  I also at this time have to bring back the wheel cylinders, since those were the wrong size also.  Not only were the cylinders the wrong size, but some A-Hole cross threaded the one on the drivers side, so I buy 4 feet of brake line.  Now my cousin(helping me out) realizes he doesn't have his flare kit.  I call two of my friends, they also have theirs loaned out to people.  So I say okay, well I'll do both my U joints then, along with a new pinion seal and output shaft seal(goes into transfercase can't remember thee exact name).  This Time i go to autozone, wouldn't you know, they give me the wrong U joints.... Right seals though, first time any store got anything right the first time.  So now I have new U joints, and seals yet no brakes since I have to wait till monday to get access to a flare kit to fix that brake line.  Total I think I made abuot 5-6 trips to those stupid stores when I should have only had to make three.  Thank goodness no bolts broke on my yoke or I might have killed someone.

Least I stopped 2 of the 3 leaks I have on my truck.  Apparently both those seals were leaking.  Now I just need to JB weld my oil pan a lil more to stop that leak...heh heh.

In short a very frustrating and rough saturday.

I ALWAYS go to the stores website, lookup the parts myself and take the part # to the store and tell them to get me that part!!!!!!! Its the only way to do it if you want the right part! No offense to you but to just people in general, If you arent bright enough to look up and get the right part # yourself, then stop complaining about the people at the stores! I havent got a wrong part yet since I started getting the #'s off the net!! I know autozone, advance, and napa have this service, you can even send your local autozone your shopping list and they will have your parts waitin on you when you get there!!!!! Eliminates the frustastion for sure!!!!!!!

Sorry, had to vent, been seein posts like this everywhere!!!!

Hold the phone there man.  You're telling me that when I go into an autoparts store I shouldn't expect to get the right part the first time?  So, I should have to do their job, before I go to the store, when in reality I'd be doing their *ucking job.  No thanks.  As for "bright enough" comment.  Kiss my @ss buddy.  No offense though.  This is just directed at people that might typically make a comment like that.

Woah there guys, calm down. WV, you've been getting on people's nerve's lately(although, not mine though). Try to take it easy. I've been through one site already that erupted in war and it wasn't pretty. and yes, it usually starts with one comment. :withstupid: Scary try not to take his comments to personally, he seems to do that to a lot of people.

WV,

I think the reason you are seeing so many of these posts is because so many company's are doing a half-a$$ed job.

You are right.  If you want to get the right part the first time, do everything yourself.  This is, as I understand it, one of the big plus-es to internet shopping.

On the other hand.  The consumer should not have to do this at ANY retail store.  The "techs" are supposed to know what they are doing.  The chains have lowered what they are willing to pay "techs", so they get less professional applicants.  This allows them greater profit margins by lowering labor costs.

What a "tech" makes (wages) is really none of my concern though.  When I buy a part, the company I am buying from makes a profit.  This profit is paying them to supply the correct part.  I don't care if they are paying their employees $1 or $100/hour, it is managements job to make sure they do their jobs correctly.

If someone is going to sell you a part, or service with the understanding that they know what you need, it is their JOB to make sure they do know what you need.

I will stop here before I get started on the $65/hour labor rates at car dealers.

Reasons behind my theory: #1 No one should know their vehicle better than the owner! Ex. (whether your rear brake shoes are 10 x 2 1/4 or 11 5/32 x 2 3/4)

#2 If you are getting paid $5 an hour to lookup parts all day your going to take shortcuts in making sure its the right part!

90 Silverado 350: I hate to break the news but there are a few people on here that get on my nerves too... but I dont say anything because everyone is open to their opinion, that what makes the site so good IMO! And when I am talking about people that gets on my nerves, I am not pointing at the people I got into the coal discussion with, I still enjoy every post they make, and that post wasnt a big deal to me, simply for thr reason of opinions!!! Also if people want me off, for voiceing my opinions let me know and I am gone!!!

Scary, I don't think WV was directing that to you personally.  At least I didn't take it that way.

No need for you to go anywhere SilveradoWV.     And for the record, the Coal discussion didn't get on my nerves.  Everyone has their own opinions.   :withstupid:
