Lightning dyno numbers

I stopped by our F-Body's dyno day at FLP and as I got there, a member who has a new silver '02 Lightning was pulling out with his buddy behind him in a black '01 Lightning.

So I stopped Jeff, asked him he dyno'd to which he said yes and I asked if he got some decent numbers.  He then devilishly grinned and said "yes"

How's this'

395 REAR WHEEL HORSEPOWER

471 lbs-ft of torque at the REAR WHEELS

The Black Lightning did 399 at the rears and about the same in torque.

Their mods were simple, intake, 6lb pulley, flipchip and cat-back.  The Black Lightning also had a torque converter.

I know, it almost wants to make me jump ship!  I hope no one I know reads that comment.  :withstupid:

Sad thing is, Jeff had a 99 Lightning before this one, and it being the slower of the two was still faster than his Cobra!

Nice numbers.  Too bad they won't help me much when I'm out on the frozen lakes this winter pulling my ice house around.  Put that into a 4x4 and then maybe we'll talk.

Well, for that, there was a guy there earlier in the day with a Powerstroke diesel Excursion that FLP installed a Banks Turbo kit (Not sure of what package), but it twisted out some 400hp and about 700+lbs-ft of torque.

Will that help you on the ice?  :withstupid:

And Paco, it was just a momentary lapse.  A few LS1's later and my mind was back to normal.

holy sssshmoly.  WEll, If I ever want a freaky fast truck to start with, I know what I'm buying. SRT-10 will be too high priced.

Let's say the SRT-10 is a conservative 70,000. you could get more rear wheel power out of the Lightning, and still have over 15 grand to spare. Ford's really got themselves a winner.

Tell me about it man!

Even a Whipple charged 496 would only turn in similar numbers, and the Lightning gives up quite a bit in displacement to the Big Block!   :0

Lightning is going to be hard to beat!!!!!

Not in the mud

Amen brother.

:baa:

Yeah, it really sucks that GM doesn't have a competitor for the Lightning, or even the Rustang (now).

Car and Driver show yesterday reviewed the '03 Cobra (w/supercharger) and said "it is the best sports car value in '03".  HELLO!  No '03 Camaro!

Yea, but if you check around, there has been a repeat of problems with the '03 Cobra like the ones that messed up the '99's.  Low power output and reliability being most common.  Reliability especially.

While I'm sure a properly running and tuned '03 will probably give a stock F-body a strong run, a simple bolt on modified LS1 will be a handful plus finding one running is the challenge.  :withstupid:
