Tired of the wired cable for CarPlay. So, I have started down the road of wireless dongle. I have purchased a Carlink Mini SE Pro and its works well once you understand its design. With the cable, when plugged in, CarPlay app ikon comes up green and you select it, and it works. If you go to settings and then Phone app ikon, you see that the infotainment system sees the phone is plugged in by cable and disconnects phone from list of phones actively connected to phone app on infotainment screen. I hope I am not confusing here. When you connect the Carlink dongle, the infotainment system does not disconnect phone from app and then you now have the dongle and phone connected to infotainment systems phone app. This is where the problems come up. The infotainment system has no idea what to do when a phone call comes in. No way to answer because it doesn`t know whether to use dongle or your phone listed in links of devices in phone app list. So, you cannot answer any incoming calls. You can call out though through CarPlay. So, when using the dongle, you must go into the phone app and disconnect the phone so infotainment system will use the dongle. You do this once the dongle is active and connected to infotainment system and phone and you have Carplay highlighted green. From my week of playing around with this dongle, I have had no other issues with infotainment system. I can bounce back and for between CarPlay and infotainment system apps which I use. Now instead of using trucks infotainment system phone app, all calls are now handled by CarPlay when using dongle. One of the reasons for the Carlink dongle was that it does GPS pass through which allows CarPlay to use trucks GPS signal instead of phones. Now phone can be put anywhere in truck as long as the Wi-Fi signal to dongle is not degraded. I hope others out there will comment with their experiences and maybe we can find the best dongle that mimics the cable connection exactly with GPS pass through. Looking to find a dongle that is truly plug and play, not one that is plug, then disconnect phone to use without issues. I suspect there nothing out there but maybe manufactures will read this post and fix this issue for 2019 to 20121 GMC vehicles.
