Sticky Gas Pedal

Recommended Posts

My '01 has got the sticky gas pedal problem. I did a search on it and have a few questions.

1.) Does the big black plastic cover on the top of the engine have to come off?

2.) The throttle cable lubricant -- is that like carb & choke cleaner?

3.) Is there anything else besides the throttle cable that needs to be cleaned?

Thanks for the help.

1. NO

2. Use throttle body cleaner (i bought STP)

3. Cable doesnt need to be cleaned its the actual throttle body

I cleaned mine today. It wasnt to bad. You have to take off the intake tube going into the throttle body. Then you spray the cleaner in and wipe off. Also open the valve and clean inside there. Very easy. I also noticed a smoother idle

Just make sure that it is not the carpet in the cab binding the pedal. There was a recall on mine for that. They trimmed the carpet and fixed it.

Just did mine too. Used STP Throttle Body cleaner. But I was really surprised to see the entire throttle body seemed to be VERY clean. My truck has about 32K (I've owned for 12K) Either someone cleaned this thing before or for some reason my truck doesn't have a problem with the carbon here. Anyway I did manage to get a rag a little black, but no great problem. This is an easy job to do!!!

I am starting to notice my '99 doing the same thing... problem for me is that I don't even know where to begin to clean my throttle body... does anyone have anymore details or a link to something that could lead me in the right direction? I am not very good with fixing my own vehicle but I am starting to get there with the help from you guys... so a detailed procedure (something with pictures a plus!!!) would be really helpful.

Thanks!

I can walk you through it kinda.

1. There is a metal strap which goes around the intake tube and a rubber boot. It is held together with a flat head bolt. Loosen the bolt take off the strap.

2. By the radiator hose there is a plastic retainer screw. Pop that out

3. Pull the intake tube out of the rubber boot.

Take off the rubber boot which goes around the throttle body.

4. Next it should look like the picture above. Spray your clean in there and wipe. Also the valve inside can be moved. Move that and spray cleaner/wipe

Hope this helps. If I missed something i am sure someone can help
