Pool Tables?

I'm thinking about getting a pool table but I have the slightest idea of what brand to look for.  It doesn't have to be fancy or anything like that.  I just want something that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

You could go to a Toy store and get those collapseable kid ones. :P  j/k.

I have no clue, but are you going to get the old fashioned style with the nets at the pocket of the new style like in poll table places?

My brother-in-law bought his off of EBay from a retail shop. he had to drive to California to pick it up but once he got it in the house, they flew someone out to assemble and level it.

They will fly the guy out again in 6 months to level again after it "settles".

we have a Brunswick 4x8 pool table. god is it nice. they cost a lot of money, but if you go cheap on one, you get the fake slate, and the crappy cloth, won't last nearly as long. and some of them just suck to play on. (we looked at a lot of tables). so thats just one thing i suggest to keep in mind. if you can find a good condition used table. jump on it. they did not last long around here. the second i would find one, it was sold.

Gandy or Brunswick are the two used in most competitions.

Make sure you get actual slate, preferably 3/4" thick or more.

Drop pockets are better than automatic ball return.

If you put the table in a room with carpet, set it up and put the slate on it but don't attach the rails or put on the cloth for at least a week. Let the legs settle into the carpet. The slate will probably be three pieces if it is a 8 ft. or 9 ft. table. After it has settled take paraffin wax and melt it into the seams where the slate meets. After it cools take a razor and scrape the seams. That levels the seams, assuming you have already used shims to level the slate.

Simonis cloth is the "only" cloth to use. I restore old pool tables and sell them as a hobby. If you have any questions let me know.
