Hey.  I need some info from anybody in the Lansing area.  I'm looking into buying a new Bass guitar, and the only response I've had from the emails I sent out was from a guy named Ed Reyes at Marshall Music Company.

Anybody here know if this store is a respectable business, and if this guy legitimately works there?  The price he quoated was nearly too good to be true.  I need to let him know something "in the near future", but I'm trying to check the place out before I start dealing with them.

Thanks for any info.

I have no idea whether that particular person works for Marshall Music, but I personally wouldn't deal with them.  Their prices are generally very high, and their customer service mediocre.  If he's quoting you a price that's "nearly too good to be true," then there will almost certainly be a catch.  You can buy most instruments for substantially less than Marshall's from other places.  Check out Interstate Music Supply, or The Woodwind/Brasswind (yes they do sell guitars too) for better prices.  I am a public school music teacher, so I've dealt with all of these companies at various times.

Thanks, I may check into those, the problem is they are not listed on Epiphone's Signature Artist Dealer page.  There was another listing in Lansing, though....Elderly Music.  Do you know if this is the same place that sends out the mail order magazines?  I've dealt with them before through the mail.

Elwood,

Hey, Marshall Music is about 15 minutes from my house and I have shopped there for 20 years for various items from guitar strings to drumsticks, and have had a couple of guitars tuned up there.  Don't know of Ed personally, but the store's prices on new equip. is mid to high in range in my opinion.

The place to go in my opinion in the Lansing area is Elderly Instruments.  Musicians from all over the world visit this place because of the wide selection of new/used gear.  This place has tons of new and used guitars and the staff is there because they love music and are very helpful.  There is a guy there named "Frog" who really knows his stuff with guitars and has a local band that has been playing for many years here.

If you want any more details or info e-mail me and I'll help you out.  A buddy of mine just bought a LesPaul Custom there used but in immaculate condition for about $1K.

Good Luck,

BIG BLUE

p.s.  ####, I'd even be willing to go check out an "ax" for ya and pluck a few tunes if you find something thru either of them but can't make the journey--just let me know!
