just got my westers

I just installed my wester's and upon turning it on it had a little trouble breathing at idle and following a hard rev. Is this normal?

I went running around town and drove it hard for the computer to read the new settings but the above concerns me. I can, however, tell you that after installing the truck ran hard and fast.............:thumbs:

Yup this IS normal. Your truck is "re-learning" and it takes a bit to do so. The new PCM has to learn your truck. Now that it has learned the basics, you will notice an improvement every mile you drive!!!

is it true that you have to drive it hard and fast for the first 100 miles to get the best out of the PCM? I filled-up with 93 today and it does rev higher but I don't know where the red-line is on the 5.3 02 Chevy. Can someone help?

Thanks.

oh, and thanks for the above reply.

Your computer "learns" your driving style too. So the reasoning behind sticking your foot in it for 40 or so miles is to make your truck think that you have an aggressive driving style, thus making your computer think it needs to program propper fuel/air mixtures and timing accordingly. This will make your truck perform better at first, but as your computer continues to learn it will make it the best for how you ACTUALLY drive. When i got my Westers, i went out on a lonely hwy with my radar detector and just kept my foot to the floor until i was at about 110, then stoped, turned around and did it again. I wouldnt worry about the rev limiter, Lyndon wouldnt have, unless you asked him to, set your limit higher than safe for your setup.

The computer will constantly relearn. If you drive it like you stoll it for the first 100 miles it will run great!!! Then if you start driving like a "granny", it will learn that style of driving too and eveything will "soften up". It's a never ending process.
