Taz Posted March 25, 2004 Posted March 25, 2004 OK, here's the story.....dealer says "oh that is normal" I tried to start my 04 Silverado a few days ago. It was about 20 degrees out and I just stuck the key in and turned it over. Thought I'd go back inside and let it warm up a little. Well, it started to sputter and died after only about 10 seconds. Wouldn't re-start so I left it sit about 30 minutes and tried again. It started and seemed flooded (ignition missing) so I gave it some gas and it cleared after a while and then ran fine. Now the problem.....when I tried to re-start, a light that looks like the back of a car with a lock came on and so did the check engine light. They eventually went out, and everything seemed fine. (it still missed for a good while) Except, now the seat belt lights won't work (they won't tell you to buckle up) and it wont' recognize the passenger when the airbag lockout is switched to auto position. No airbag for the passenger, but only sometimes. (says airbag off) Question is....would this be acceptable to anyone here? It sure seems like a problem to me. Could it be computer related? Any ideas????? Dealer can't seem to troubleshoot the problem and his position is that this is normal. Edit: this truck has 1014 miles on it. Makes feel like.......
Wingnut Posted March 25, 2004 Posted March 25, 2004 Tell them it's a safety issue, as you can't tell when your kid unbuckled her seatbelt..........Because you can't. I wouldn't stand for it either. Did you try a different dealer? The differences between dealers can really be surprising. Anyway....Welcome to the forums!
techmanbd Posted March 25, 2004 Posted March 25, 2004 Yeah I say try another dealer, or if you are not close to another one, call GM. My mom had the similar experience with her honda. Turned out there was something wrong with the computer. So she went to another dealer and also called thier corporate office and got it resolved after a month of BS
OUMike Posted March 25, 2004 Posted March 25, 2004 Definatly go with a different dealer. Heck, maybe even try GM Customer Support. They wern't much help to me in the past, but then again my truck is 10 years old. A customer with an 04' might have better luck
Taz Posted March 26, 2004 Author Posted March 26, 2004 Update: I got the truck back from the dealer today. It is working properly. It was working when I took it out to them. I guess I can see thier problem.....can't fix something that is not broke. It only does it sometimes, not all the time. I'm going to take a wait and see approach for now. It will happen again (or at least it should) They checked the voltmeter, tachometer, ignition cap and a few other things. I'm not sure what any of that had to do with the airbags???? Sadest part is....I REALLY liked this truck. I've had Nissan for years and before that I owned Chevy. I was glad to finally be returning to Chevy.....the build quality seems better than it has ever been, and the truck runs really good. Aaahhh! Pushrod V-8's....You gotta love'em! Also, didn't mean to post such negative post for my first time here. I'm looking forward to reading more and doing some customizing. Wish me luck

Wish me luck Don't worry about asking questions right out of the shoot. That's what these boards are for!!! I'm sorry you are having problems with your new Silverado because they really are great trucks. I'm guessing you have a problem with your BCM or PCM, because it sounds like they aren't talking to eachother...
