I am attempting to determine if a late model engine is compatible with my '97 S10 4X4 Blazer and/or what the determining factors may be.

Does anyone have or know where I may be able to find such information without purchasing both service manuals?

Thanks

It should be.

I believe the 4.3 that was an option in 1997 is the same SFI engine that comes in my 2000.

You may want to do some more research on the net but I'm pretty sure I'm right.

i would say i am 98.9% positive it would work.  They really didnt do any changes on it

My only concern is that when I look at rebuilds or new short blocks the application stops at '99.  I have been looking everywhere on the net to no avail.  The dealership that I have been purchasing parts from closed leaving me standed as to dealing with a knowlegable parts guy.

Thanks again.

From 96 and up they not only went to SFI (which you have in your 97) they also changed the block, oil pan and bellhousing structure so that they were all integrated into one piece for structural integrity (or so they said) instead of them simply being bolted on to the block as had been done up until 95.

As such, I'd stick with anything 96+ otherwise you'll run into emissions problems as well as a different block version.

I can't direct you to a manual or anything that shows this other than the factory GM manuals.  I just know this from memory of a TSB/training update back when I was working on them.
