transmission is called heavy duty, has a deeper pan than most. fluid/filter changed at 50k and 100k, now has 120k. Any clues as to how long before it goes south?

thanks

I wouldn't worry too much about your trans, I had a 96 SLE and sold it with 333,000 km's on it and running strong.

And there isn't a Light duty or heavy duty 4l60-e for the 98+ year, that was only up to 97, and those pans that are the newer deep ones come on everything except s-10's.

Thanks for the help, but I'll have to disagree on the trans being different. When I changed the filter the first time the one I got from the parts store didn't match up. Had to go GM, my pan has an extra bolt holding it on (17 I think) and is a 1/2" deeper. The dealer said that less than 1% were this way. Anyway once I had the AC Delco part number from the first change I was able to cross reference it for the second one. GM has about convinced me to change trucks but after looking under the latest version of the Z71, the physical size of the componets is much smaller and it weighs almost 500# less, I think I stick with what I've got. I was just wondering if a trans rebuild was in the near future. thanks again.

In 98 they phased out the older style 4l60/700r4 tranny cases for the fullsizes, and in 96 for the s-10's. The new ones have removable bellhousings and are lighter and shorter. Its not a matter of a Heavy duty transmission, its the new model. And yes the pans are deeper than that of 97- years.

Trust me, I had to figure out what tranny from a fullsize would fit my 97 s-10, so I had to order a 98 so that it was a direct replacement, cuz the 96 and up s-10s had the same case as the 98+, but if the trans was in an s-10 it by no means is a HD model. The only difference is better clutch packs (which all full sizes have) and a lower stall torque converter. A 4l60-e built for a full size is built a bit better, thats why I got one, but it isn't classified as a HD, thats the 4l80-e.

I have a 94'. Does that mean my tranny is a 4L60? No Electronic?
