Creak in front right wheel when braking/turning

Recommended Posts

I have noticed in the past few weeks a creek in the front right wheel well when braking and turning corners. I just had and oil change and they greased up the 11 zirks( I thought there were 12 or 13) and still no change. Has anyone experienced this before and if so what did you do to fix it. I dont feel any jerks or pulls when I am slowing down just a creaking noise.

Any info will be appreciated as I would like to narrow this problem down.

If you still have the stock air box, check and make sure it's seated otherwise it makes all kinds of weird noises like loose suspension. On my truck with the windows open it sounds like rattling washers in the right front suspension. The windows closed the sound was muted but sounded like it was just above the passenger seat.

Derek,

z71 would indicate I have a 4wd. (sorry maybe you didn't see that)

Tucson,

The noise is only when I come to a stop. Its a creaking noise and it doesnt sound like rattling washers.

does anyone else have any ideas

I have a 2002 z-71 regular cab, and also have a creaking noise when i come to a stop...it doesnt do it when its raining outside however...to me, it sounds like its coming from behind the drivers seat... and sometimes it comes from behind the passenger seat...

I havent been able to fix the problem, and the dealer cant fix it either (they have acknowledged that they hear the noise)...

May be dumb.. but check your CV boots.. I have a creaking that I've traced back to them...

Could be CV joints. Check to see if you have any cracks in them - would cause debris to get in there and tear up the joints. Could also be a loose sway bar link or rack and pinion steering linkage. Get under there and shake some of those parts. If anything is more than .25" loose, it could cause a rattle.

Taki,

The creaking noise I am hearing is coming from the front right wheel. Not 100% sure where abouts though.

Koab,

CV Boots are the Accordian like rubber boots right? Dont mean to ask that stupid question but I think I know what it is but not completely sure. I will definately check it out though.

Boogity3,

What are CV Joints? I will check the other parts you have listed though.

Thanks again for the replies everyone. I am just that closed to figuring out what it is.

 Sounds like sway bar bushings, get underneith with a can of lithium greese take the little red tube and get a bunch of the greese into the bushings, sounds like they are drying out. Always worked for me.

Remember GM has a list of noises considerewd "NORMAL"

There is a TSB for my truck with a similiar problem that says it is the shock bushing. Not sure if it is just for 2WD. I am kicking my self for not saving it before the password i had ran out this year.

my 03 z-71 is doing the same thing. Especially when slowing down and turning.

I found that if I put the truck in 4wd and take it out it solved the problem for a while. Try this and let me know what happens to yours. Also keep me informed if you find a permanent fix.

Do you get any creaking when you go over bumps or if the truck is stopped can you rock it to get the same sound? I sometmes get this with my Suburban. I think I've narrowed it down to the bushing that is under the truck even with the front of the driver's door.
