skippysg Posted April 6, 2004 Posted April 6, 2004 We are pulling that trailer from Illinois to Florida using our 1995 Chevy 2500. On the way back, it will be loaded with a brand new dragster, just chasis/body. btw, hi to my brother antig24 Edit: Trailer is 24' long from jack to rear and its built pretty good. I cannot pick the front up by myself.
99-2door Posted April 6, 2004 Posted April 6, 2004 Is it a Light duty 2500 (6-lug) or HD (8-lug)? I assume you have an auto tranny. Is it the 4L60e or 4L80e? That trailer and a dragster chassis aren't much weight. The best way to tell whether you should be using overdrive is to pay attention to the tranny's behavior. If it is shifting in and out of OD a lot you probably want to pull it out of it. Depends on the terrain and type of driving you will be doing too. Just be smart and pay attention to those shifts.
skippysg Posted April 6, 2004 Author Posted April 6, 2004 It is a light duty. Not sure on the tranny, antig24 will probably come along here before too long and post which one it is, guessing the lighter duty one.
Shaners Posted April 6, 2004 Posted April 6, 2004 On the flat it should pull fine in OD. When you come to hilly terrain or across the Smokies/Blue Ridge then I would pull in "3". Like was already mentioned, you will have to watch the tach. If it seems like the truck can't hold the load in OD and the torque converter keeps unlocking, then pull it down to "3".
