Trailblazer Trailer Lights

Looking at the Owners manual on the wifes EXT it mentions a wiring harness located under the dash so you can attach an electric brake control box. Anyone done this? Got any Ideas? It looks nothing like my HD under there. The fuse box is under the rear seat and that is where my brake controller plugged into on my HD. I hate to take it to the Steeler for this BS.

thanks

Says nothing in the owner manual about this. From what I understand is that the port in the rear has the electric brake controls built in.

ON page 4-63 of my book is states "YOur vehicle is equipped with wiring for an electric trailer brake controller. These wires are located inside the vehicle on the driver's side under the instrument panel"

I find no such wires and was wondering if anyone else has wired their TB to pull a large trailer requiring a brake controller.

The wires are there. Four wires with little tags on them, all bundled together. You will need to remove the "cover" at the bottom of the dash to get to them. It is just two screws at the 'color to black' transition and a 'snap' in the middle. Once you have the cover dropped you should find the wires in question at the far left side.

Good Luck

I will look this weekend. Thanks. What about the additional fuse in the fuse box. I guess it is already installed. The reason I ask is because when you buy an HD the wires for the harness and a large fuse come bundled together in the glove box. Then you install them when you add the brake controller.

If your truck came with the trailering option (hitch and 7-way connector at rear bumper) then the fuses are installed.

If you want auxillary power at the trailer (12v for charging trailer batteries, etc.), then you will have to connect the red wire with the ring terminal on it at the front of the underhood fuse box.

Remove the fuse box cover, at the front of the box where the main engine harness breaks out there is a "stray" wire with a ring terminal on it. That needs to be attached to the post at the front of the fuse box (the one protected by the aux trailer fuse)

Like Wxman said, the wires are there if you have the trailering package. Just look around a bit under the instrument panel, you'll find them.

Good Luck and Hope this helps.

Thanks,

My wife says there is no way we are useing her truck to pull anything that will have trailer brakes. She said that I can just pull it all with my truck even if I have to make two trips. Guess that solves that huh?

Thanks again, Ranger

The wires are there. I put a controller on my wife's Trailblazer and used it to tow my 3000lb dual-axle enclosed trailer when we were moving. The brakes worked fine and it stopped just great. I set the controller a little on the stout side to keep the load off the Trailblazer's brakes.

The T'blazer pulled it great except it was a little squishy on the rear end when we had it loaded down. My wife didn't like the controller being in there so I took it back out a few weeks later. Didn't have to install any fuses like somebody already said.

I think the TB is a little squishy in the rear end anyway. Even before you add a trailer of any kind to it. But I am also used to driving a 3/4 ton truck. I don't like the seats much. They don't fit your body like the ones in my truck. Feel like I am riding on an air bag. Oh well, too late to sell her now. My wife loves it.
