Baffle broke in catalytic converter

99 5.3L Reg cab

I posted a while back on a rattle and soem1 suggested I hit the cat with a mallet to see if it rattles... and if so.... problem identified. I did this and sure enough.... its a baffle broken in there!

How much will it cost for a replacement converter (aftermarket, high flow)? What about getting O2 simulators and just having that cat replaced with pipe? What do those simulators run?

Yea, the "bricks" or w/e theyre called go bad, cog it up and rattle. Just order two off ebaymotors, type in carsound. It's your best bet prolly

Original Factory from dealer is about $550. I think I seen them on GM Parts Direct for around $380.

Both cats come as one piece already welded into the y-pipe. I believe the cost is complete with the 4 new O2 sensors.

500+ bucks for factory cats?

I think I'ld much rather buy a high flow cat for 60 bucks.

check under federal warenty emisions parts some are covered for

longer than gm standerd 3/36000. cant hurt to ask just might save you

some $$$$

What does the rattle sound like?

My driver side on my 2000 makes a metallic rattle.. If I hit the CAT (COLD OF COURSE ;) )

With my fist I can hear the noise... I was almost committed to replacing the cat when I realized the noise is coming from the d**n O2 sensor.. There is a little metal ring around the end of it where the wires come out.. The rattle is the metal ring.. Check that 1st...
