Rancho 4" lift

Newbie here with question. To all those that have done suspension lifts, how hard is it? Here's my deal...

I've narrowed it down to Rancho 4" lift kit. I live in Canada and the prices installed are crazy. $3050 CDN for kit only w/o shocks. I had two places quote $3000 to start plus about $2000 labour.

This is what I want to do and need your input.

Do it myself in my garage. Time will not be a concern. I will do it old school (wrenches and jack stands). No "high tech air tools or hyd lift". Can I do this or what? I don't work on trucks for a living but am no idiot either. What should I lookout for?

Thanks for your replies.

BTW if anyone has a picture of a Reg cab stepside with a 4" lift, please post. I want to see what it will look like.

I have not done one. I have spent allot of time under my truck cleaning mud out from underneath it though. I personally feel that this kit could be installed by someone with moderate mechanical skills in a weekend. This is just my opinion though.

Thanks Jon for the reply. That's a very nice truck you have. How do you like the Rancho lift? What made you get that one? Thanks.

Thank you.

I love the Rancho line of lifts. For a daily driver truck you cannot go wrong. I have had Rancho on several vehicles since 1995. I have done all kinds of stuff with the trucks and never had a failure on the lift.

It took myself and a helper 12 hours, start to finish, with air tools. You can do it without them, but it would take much much longer! Its not really all that hard, just time consuming. If you have any specific questions, let me know.:D

Thanks 1badhd. Sweet looking trucks on your homepage. Big Dixie looks almost like mine. But holy huge tires! I'll be running 285's which is like 33" tires...right?

Anyway, thanks for the offer of help on the specific questions. I have downloaded the instruction manual for the RS6543 lift. I read it over and it doesn't seem that bad.

Um, were there any weird size sockets or any strange tools that you really needed to make the work easier? I know the T-bar socket is 18mm but anything else?

Thanks again...

Not sure what size the bolt is....but you will need a metric socket and a BIG BIG breaker bar to ge the brake caliper bolts out. Actually all the nuts and bolts are metric.
