LoL man, you bought a big a$$ truck, It's not going to happen.

I get 10-12mpg in my 04 2500hd 4x4 6.0. That's not bad. I was getting the SAMe with my 00 S-10 4x4 zr2!

I'm sure, from experience, an intake/exhaust always helps, and light on the gas pedal...

As for better mpg K&N fipk or similar, programmer or Westers PCM, electric fans and staying with the little dinky stock tire 245's... Oh and stay of the gas pedal...

Keep lots of air in the tires and keep your foot off of the gas. Use the DIC - Instant Economy guage to adjust your driving style for the best economy.

I recently got a new 2004 2500HD with the 496 and Allison. Currently it is getting 12.8mpg and I been using the DIC and the "instant economy" selection. Doing this keeps you on your toes at keeping the MPG in a decent spot. My truck is brand new (800 miles currently) and I didn't think it would get near as good as it is doing. Had a 6 liter truck with 4.10's and it would squeek 14mpg on the highway sometimes and 9-10 towing a 6500lb trailer. The 496 mileage probably will get a little better as the miles rack up. Good fuel economy and a V8 gas motor just don't go hand in hand. If you expect more than about 13-14 mpg out of your truck even with mods then you will probably be disappointed. A Westers may help a bit, but driving habits will make a difference as well. Nothing is going to give you incredible gas milage though. Actually 13-14 mpg is incredible for these trucks...

Had mine for just over 2 years, (with about 5 months of 'airport garage' time).

In the winter I get 9-10, summer it is a consistant 13.5 if In don't have a lot of stop and go miced in. If there is a lot lot of Stop and go, I will typically drop to the mid-12s for that tank's worth. Highway (trips longer than 1 tank full) is almost always 13.5 -13.6 when going south of DC (lot less stop & go). North of DC is closer to daily driving.

I don't ever expect t to get more than that.

Saturday I took a little road trip to go have dinner with my mom & grandmother. After filling up, I decided that I would really take it easy on the gas pedal & see how good of gas mileage I could get. After the first 24 miles my DIC MPG AVG read 14.1 The next 50 miles was really hilly, lots of up & downs, twists & turns......but I ended up getting 13.7 on the 75 mile trip! Like I said, I never floored it, didn't speed & just took it easy the whole way. I was impressed at how good it was since I usually get around 11ish in my daily commute to work & back.

You made a big mistake if you are concerned about gas mileage on block that big.

If it is keeping you up at night, then this was not the truck for you.

If you want better mileage, I recommend driving downhill only.

If you really want to keep it, then find some little geo to pull it around with.

Sorry just tired of seeing the same old mileage question for the 8100 vortec. Just my 2 cents.

I've REALLY been trying to stretch the gas mileage. No quick starts, no passing ... cruise control helps on the flats sections. I've been driving at 65 on the hiway ... draft Suburbans and expiditions whenever I can ....

505 miles on 34.2 gallons of 87 octane gasoline.

14.8MPG!!!!

I honestly think the K&N FIPK has helped a mile or mile and a half on fuel mileage.

I did remove the filter from the factory pack, wash all the oil out of it and just misted the filter with fresh. Just barely turned the filter a faint pink color.
