Undercoat on new truck

I ordered my first ever new GMC 2500 D/A. It should come in in a week. The dealer is trying to sell me on "Platinum Undrcoat Protection" for $240 (CDN). Is this a good thing or is it just another gimmic (more money for the dealer).

I have not used dealer undercoating or paint protection in years. It always seemed to be overpriced and did not stand up. I am not sure of the product that they are applying but I would use Rust Check if I thought I need it. How long do you plan to keep your truck? If you plan to keep it 5 years or less then it is probably not worth it. If you plan to keep your truck longer or use it in harsh conditions then you will want something better that you have re-applied every 12-18 months or so. You won't get more rust anywhere than we get here in Saint John NB.

Have fun with the new truck!

I've been getting my vehicles undercoated for so long that I can't even remember the last one that wasn't undercoated. Depending upon what they use, and how skilled the person is applying it, I would consider getting it done.

No No No, don't do it.

All that does is clog up the drain holes etc and can actually void your GM warranty in some cases.

Save your money

Rustproofing has been know to do this, but not undercoating.
