too much tranny fluid

i thought my truck was shifting harsher than it used to, so I checked the tranny fluid tonite. it is too full. it is also kind of orangish brown and not the bright red i was expecting.

I had the dealer do a complete tranny fluid replacement at 82k (now at 97k). what problems could too much fluid cause??

If I understand correctly, too much tranny fluid is just as bad as not having enough. I don't know what the reprocussions will be, but I would definately take it back to the place that serviced it and have a chat with them.

Too much ATF = Bad news......take it back for a proper service or drain some out by dropping the pan or the plug, if it has one. My understanding is too much fluid will cause "foaming or frothing" in the transmission which is NOT what you want from your fluid. The color you mentioned tells me its dirty and in need of changing, if it was new it would be a light pinkish red, I would not expect it to be brown in 15K since your last change.

shouldn't be brown with only 15 K miles...but I guess its all relevant as to the driving conditions. Too much fluid makes it foam = bad for the trans.
