Well, i had to clean my K&N filter, so while i had it out, i decided to drill my airbox.

I saw just how small the opening is!! Freeking tiny!!

I added about 50 1/4 inch holes into it.... hehe

Just waiting for the oil to soak into the filter, then i'm going out to see how much HP i gained(or didn't gain).

Lets hope for the best!!  :)

I'll post pictures, and impressions later....

Ok, i'm back from my drive!

HOLY FREEKING SHEAT!!!!!!!!  :0  :0  :0  :0

My truck really goes now!! Also the engine sounds much deeper, and has nice growl to it!!!  For a cost nothing mod, that took 30 min tues, i'd say it was well worth it!! :)

As Mervz looks at his fender and sees 50 or so 1/4" holes and goes "No wonder that plastic was so hard to drill through"

Glad to hear it worked out for you.  How come you didn't just get a big bit and drill a few holes?

Ok, here we go,

Then just now, i decided to add another batch of holes and to clean the box.... hehehe

Geez Mervz, why didn't you just toss it in the air and shoot it w/ a shot gun?  Have you considered taking some 3" pvc and run it down to behind your air dam?  Just a thought, I guess it shoots even more air into the box.

Back again...

After adding even more holes, this thing rocks! I can only imagine what it would be like with an FIPK.

Since the 4.3 is basicly a 5.7 with two cyliders chopped, i was dissapointed when i bought the truck that it didn't sound too much like the 5.7. Now, after the drilling, the engine tone has dropped, and sounds alot more like our Camaro. An aftermarket exaust would add alot. hehe :)

If you modify your air box more a FIPK would be a waste of money.  If you want to add the PVC "scoop" I've got access to all the plumbing stuff and a plumber (He lives w/ me, I call him dad).  I think that I might try it on my cousins car this weekend if he's not too scared.

The airbox/resonator thing on mine only had an opening of about 2 1/4 inches to feed a 5.7. I replaced it with a section of 4 inch PVC tubing and sealed it to the inner fender where the air feeds in. Also axed the pre-heater tube and blocked it  off, and made sure the flap which directs air through that pre heater tube is fully open all the time. I also sealed all the holes where the feed in the inner fender opens up to the hot air under the hood. Any way you can channel nothing but cold fresh air is going to give a positive effect.

Total cost for PVC = $1.27 at Home Depot

I'm planning of adding a second snorkel feed on the other side and getting creative with that one as well. There's nothing like free horsepower.

Hey Jon and 95Yukon,

I'd love to see pics of this PVC thing. Wouldn't mind replacing my stocker air tube with something like this.

Hey Mervz,

Good idea! We used to do that with our 2 stroke 4 wheeler engines air box to get more air in. Use to work great! Never thought about doing it to my truck.

After two days.....

I've noticed this "howl" at around 2000 RPMS.  It turns into a growl quickly, but still sounds weird. Almost rice! (ugh)

Overall, i'm still very happy with this mod. The power and tourqe has noticbly picked up over the whole RPM range. Still feels like it has more in it though....just waiting to be unleashed.  I think a powerprogramer might help free some power even more....

Today its raining, and i checked to see if there was a problem. No water even on the airbox....

I might pull the box one more time to add as many more holes as i can, or just drill one large one in the side, lol.

worried about water in it?  geez there's so many holes in it, that it would just flow out right away.

Bassdog:  If we do it to my cousin's bonneville this weekend I'll get some pics of that, if not look around fsc, I remember someone posting pics of how they did it in there truck, do a search for "PVC air box" or something like that.
