2001 GMC Jimmy

My sister's boyfriend has a 2000 Jimmy.  It's loaded and has everything but the place he bought it from did not give him the owner's manual or the keyless entry fobs.  They have tried since the beginning to get them but no one has done anything.

 

I have the fobs from my '98 truck I used to have will they work?  I know they need re-programming -- how can that be done.  Also, I know it doesn't have the buttons for the rear 2 doors and alarm.  Would he be better off just buying new ones.    Any help is appreciated.

You can try to re-program them but I won't gaurantee they'll work.

 

Also, there are two ways to program GM fobs.  One you can do, one you need to have a technician re-program with a TechII.

 

Here are the steps to do it yourself, maybe it'll work.

 

1) Obtain all key fobs (if you re-program one, you'll need to re-program all of them, otherwise only the new one you programmed will work and not the others).

 

2) Pull radio fuse

 

3) Turn ignition forward to accesory (where the radio would come on) 3 (three) times....LEAVE ON in that accesory position.

 

4) Hold both the unlock and lock buttons on fobs.  If it works, you'll hear the door locks cycle and you may possibly hear the rear hatch release.  Note:  As you are holding the lock and unlock buttons, it may take up to 60 seconds to do it.  SO don't just hold them briefly.

 

Repeat step 4 for all other remaining fobs.

 

If you do this and it doesn't work, unfortunately either those fobs don't work with the '00's PCM or you're one of the unlucky ones that need to have a technician do it with a TechII.
