Valve Noise

On my 2003 Sierra, when I goto start it in the morning, I am getting some valve train noise (ticking). It goes away after a minute or so, but I am wondering if this is normal until the engine comes up to operating temp or if I have a problem?

Try the O ring on the oil pump pick up. GM knows about this. Warrenty will cover. Thak it in with a Delco stock filter to prevent ant problems with them trying to blame the filter for the problem.

It is 100% normal, and will not be fiixed by any o-ring, seal or oil additive.

 

There is a bulletin out that involves all the Vortec motors from 1998 to present. It is considered normal with no fix. As long as the sound goes away after a couple minutes.

 

Your dealership should be able to give you a copy of this bulletin explaining the cause.

 

If you complain enough, I have seen GM give out 100K mile warranty on the motor.

Thanks for the info. I just want to make sure that I wasnt in for a surprise at 36,001 miles!

And I only use AC Delco for filters - Pf-59.

I thought some of the O rings were getting split upon the factory install and I also thought there was a service paper on that subject. BTW here is what I thought was the GM cure for the problem. When you go to the dealer ask them about this

 

#02-06-01-038 Engine Knock or Lifter Noise (Replace O-Ring) - (Dec 2, 2002).

 

I thought for a minute I was loosing it or something. LOL

GMCTECH, here's one for you,when would they replace the O-ring,is it about oil pressure? I have the same problem.Chevrolet gave me a 100,000 or 6 year warrantee for it, but I was just wondering about the O ring?
