Got this from another forum. Can we make a difference?

It would be kinda kool if everyone would do this, and then the companies would maybe think twice before makeing gas prices so d**n high,LOL

IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN THE UNITED STATES DID NOT PURCHASE A DROP OF GASOLINE FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME, THE OIL COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES.

AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET LOSS OF OVER 4.6 BILLION DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE OIL COMPANIES.

THEREFORE MAY 19TH HAS BEEN FORMALLY DECLARED "STICK IT UP THEIR behind " DAY AND THE PEOPLE OF THIS NATION SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF GASOLINE THAT DAY.

THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN BE DONE IS IF YOU FORWARD THIS E-MAIL TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN AND AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN TO GET THE WORD OUT.

WAITING ON THIS ADMIINSTRATION TO STEP IN AND CONTROL THE PRICES IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REDUCTION AND CONTROL IN PRICES THAT THE ARAB NATIONS PROMISED TWO WEEKS AGO?

REMEMBER ONE THING, NOT ONLY IS THE PRICE OF GASOLINE GOING UP BUT AT THE SAME TIME AIRLINES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES, TRUCKING COMPANIES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES WHICH EFFECTS PRICES ON EVERYTHING THAT IS SHIPPED. THINGS LIKE FOOD, CLOTHING, BUILDING MATERIALS, MEDICAL SUPPLIES ETC. WHO PAYS IN THE END? WE DO!

WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IF THEY DON'T GET THE MESSAGE AFTER ONE DAY, WE WILL DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN.

SO DO YOUR PART AND SPREAD THE WORD. FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW. MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND MAKE MAY 19TH A DAY THAT THE CITIZENS OF THE UNITED STATES SAY "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH"

The only way to lower the price in the long-term is:

a) lower demand

b) increase supply

OPEC has you on (b), so that leaves (a). Not buying for one day will only be possible if no one drives on that day or everyone coordinates their fuel purchases so as not to need a fill on that day. Even so, unless fuel consumption is actually lowered by less driving or more fuel efficient vehicles the demand will have not change one bit. All this would accomplish is to create a lot of inconvenience for the fuel delivery chain and add costs to the supply side - not what is needed.

The other thing to consider is that gasoline futures are traded on the commodities market, which can drive prices up (or down) due to speculative trading patterns. Unless collusion is proven amongst the oil/gas companies, the prices are the result of a capitalist market system with raw crude prices being only one factor.

Considering I first saw it as "addressed to occupant" junk U.S. postal mail in the late 70s during the Iranian American Hostage crisis, I wish the dumb thing would die.

The email thing won't work, but yeah gas prices do suck. I filled the truck up yesterday...$1.899/gal for 87. Having a 4 cyl. manual does help a lot considering the 3.0, while efficient for a V6 auto, drinks up its tank much faster, but I'm still paying $20 to fill up when I'm at 1/4 of a tank, and for me $20 is a lot!

As of this moment, gas is selling in my neighbourhood for the following equivalent $US price per US gallon: $2.71 (or 99.5 CDN cents per litre).

Well we hit $2.05 at most of the stations in town...I was able to fill up for $1.95...hit the big $40 mark this time around...sucks.

Heck, you're lucky. The lowest you can get 87 here (NW Wash. St.) is $2.21/gal with most places being $2.24 to $2.28. 92 octane goes for $2.40 to $2.50. Filled up my truck w/ 92 the other day in prep for installing the supercharger, and the gas pump shut off after hitting the $50 mark. I had to re-swipe the credit card and start again to finish filling the tank.

Peace and Cool-ness,
