I just bought a new fridge from Sears and it won't cool down below 50 degrees. I gave it almost a week to cool down, but it just won't cool down enough. Any ideas???

shoot....it's sears...tell em....they'll take it back. I got a craftsman tool box as a wedding present...(I have a great wife, she let me put it on the registry) when it was delivered it was all beat up....I took it to the nearest store and they replaced it...no hassle....they offered to pick it up for me, but I didn't think I had to go that far.

play with the setting for the fridge controls, maybe something isn't right.

sears, so it's probably made in the USA:

use the old american method then, hit it or kick it a few times, and somthing might get knocked into place(don't try to tell me this method has never worked for you guys before)

was it transported laying down???if so you will have to turn it unplug it and turn it off for a few hours to let the air pocket get out of the lines--sounds crazy  but it might help--this is an old trick i was told about 20 years ago--hope it helps you out

That's what I was going to say. Or there may be something wrong with the refrigerant recirculation pump. OR, it could just be a piece of crap. Try the turning it off trick and if that doesn't work, call Sears! No sense being pissed about something that can be replaced no questions asked.

Do you have anything in the fridge yet? If the fridge is sitting empty, the only thing you have to cool is air. This could short cycle the compressor, not allow it to work properly and give false readings.

If you have air in your refridgerant lines, you've got major problems. Moisture in air could mix with the refridgerant and create an acid. Also, from the factory, the refridgerant lines are pulled into a vaccum then charged. Air is not present in the system.

I did ship it laying down. The woman at the store said it is fine, but I should let it sit for about an hour. I left it sit for about 1 1/2 hours when I got it before I plugged it in. She said the new ones only have to sit for an hour after laying down. I've heard 24 hours, but I went by what she said. I have it set at the maximum setting for a day now with pop and beer in it. It still won't go below 50 degrees. I'll try turning it off for awhile again.

BTW, thanks for the help guys!:thumbs:

The reason why they say let them sit if they've been on there side is because the oil will drain out of the compressor. You need to let it sit upright for a while to let the oil drain back in.

If it didn't find it's way back in time, you may have damaged the compressor slightly.

If the freezer is freezing then your not looking at a cooling problem. It's either the fridge controls or something blocking the passage from the freezer to the fridge where the little fan is.

I think you hit it right on the head Shotgun. I looked at the air vent going from the freezer to the fridge and it was sealed shut with ice. I cleaned it all out and will see if it works better. The service man is coming on Tuesday, so I will find out why it did that. Thanks a bunch guys!! :puke:
