4.2 I-6 RPM roars when cold.  why?

I drove a 2002 GMC Envoy SLT today and I've noticed the same problem on the TrailBlazer.  When you first start it up and drive off it sounds like a jet taking off or something.  Why does it rev so high?  My neighbor's old 80's Blazer did that.  You'd think GM would get rid of that annoying noise in such

a [now] expensive vehicle.

I love the interior of the Envoy.  And the steering wheel controls.  Worlds above the Trailblazer's horrid interior build quality, or lack thereof.  :sarcasm:

As much of a GM guy as I am, I have to say I'm disappointed in the "triplets".  Bad build quality, questionable reliability, and high prices are leading me to their foreign competition.     :D

that noise is caused by the viscuous fan clutch, the oil that couples the fan to the hub settles when parked and the fan engages for the first few minutes of operation until it disengages. My '95 truck does the same thing. if it quits making that noise you better check the fan hub, it probably needs replaced. the engine rpm's aren't going any higher than usual, the noise of the fan just makes it sound that way.

Hmmm, had the enovy for 7 months and not once did it sound like a jet taking off.    In fact, it is EXTREMELY quiet even during cold start pull aways.    If it sounds like jet, there has to be something wrong.

I have had my TB for a few months now, and the fan does not roar when its cold.

Now my old blazers would have a VERY load roar from the cooling fan when they were cold. I had a 94,95,98,2000,2001, and they all did it.

The one thing I don't like about my new TB is that it runs very hot. On a hot day with the A/C on, the temp gauge will go 2 lines ABOVE the 210 mark. All of my old blazers NEVER went above the 210 mark.

Could you describe the "horrid interior build quality" of the TrailBlazer?  Or are you just trolling?

ok, so I can't log in on my GM1 user name, so I had to create another one. :baa:

Serious, I am not trolling.  And I'm not intending to start a flame, this is just my $.02.    I am as much of a GM fan as you.  But every TB I've driven has had quality issues.  On every one, I felt I could literally pull off the grab handles.  I've seen some center consoles that I can jiggle from side to side.  The panel around the 2 hvac vents I could have torn off in one TB if I tried hard enough.   It just made the whole thing seem cheap.  I mean every TB I've gotten inside has had something wrong with it.

I'm sorry, but I just can't see shelling out over $30K for something that's going to fall apart when new.  Seems like the Envoy is a little ( ??? ) better built, but this time GM is not going to get my money.  If I had a little more to spend, I would likely get a nicer Tahoe or Yukon.  But I don't.

I'm very pleased with my '99 Grand Prix GT.  And I'm excited at the direction that GM is finally going.  But those triplets, in my book, are officially off my SUV shopping list.

My fan makes that awful noise too for the first couple of blocks I drive it, but not every time.  It is annoying and I figured GM would've done something about it by now.  I am surprised the TB has a clutch fan anyway...

As far as quality - Well, this is my first GM vehicle in years and I am extremely pleased with it.  Not one single issue with cheap interior.

ive noticed that many blazers make that high rev noise.

i don't think the TB interior is too bad, but id like some better plastics.  also i wish the body wasn't as pudgy
