Hello all, I'm new here, so I hope

I am posting in the right place .

I have a 82 GMC 4X4 with the

factory trans, 700R4 or 200, not sure,

but to my surprise, it has a vaccum

modulator. What I want to know is

can I put a 460LE trans in this truck?

Will it still go on the transfer case

like the stock one does? or does

anyone know of a company that can help

me. Thanks all. :D

There IS a difference betwwen the 4L60 and 4L60E..

The 4L60 basically replaced the TH700R4, and still uses a vacuum modulater and detent cable, and would be easier to swap

The 4L60E is shifted electronically by the ECM...thus the "E"...and would require a new computer....but I dont think it would work w/a carburated engine, but I could be wrong,I have not researched or tried this conversion.

You may also have a TH350 in the truck...which in my opinion is stronger tranny but does not have overdrive...

You will need to find out which transmission you have (TH350 or TH700R4) before planning any changes.....just my opinion...

Just got all the bug's out last nite.

after driving it, I realized it has the

overdrive on the colum, and it has

a turbo 350 trans that vibrates upon

take off, then smoothes out. Overall

its a great truck :banghead:

There is no OD on any THM 350, only a locking converter. If it has OD it is a 700R4. The early 700R4 were realy troublesome. If you can swap in a 87 or later 700R4 it is a pretty solid unit and does not need a computer to shift.
