Went out for a run earlier and happened to notice a small puddle or stream of fluid on the garage floor. A closer look revealed it was light orange or pink like Dexcool. I peeked under the hood and discovered some coolant sitting on that light metal front skidplate. There is where it was dripping from onto the concrete. The front hoses near the radiator look dry as does the t-stat. I was thinking water pump, but I didn't get out my manual to see where it's positioned yet, so I don't know. The coolant on the plate was basically right under the center of the engine where the air tubing crosses over behind the fan. She's going in tomorrow to the dealer due to the extended warranty, so we'll see...99 Silverado ext cab 5.3 with 67k on the clock.

Sounds like it could be the water pump, its mounted to the front of the engine and the fan bolts to it...there is a weep hole on the bottom of the pump body just visible behind the pulley and can be seen from underneath if you pull the cover (skid plate) back.....good luck at the dealer

Water pump indeed...there was some light rust visible on top of something down there as the tech pointed out to me. He was able to use a mirror and figure out that it was the pump. The extended warranty comes through again to the tune of $341.
