My Westers Tune...

I took my truck in for service and they completly wiped out my Westers programming. They did all the updates and installed some new programming without asking me. They were trying to address some of my warranty issues with my driveline, and found a program from GM and installed it.

Oh well... This gives me the exact reason I've been looking for to get an updated dual tune program from Lyndon!!!

BTW, you don't realize how much your truck has adapted to it's Westers tune, until you take it away. My truck was slow to learn its' custom Westers tune probably because of my short trips etc... But now that it's back to stock, I pitty you guys that have to run your trucks like this!!! I'm amazed...

GM has releases updated for the PCM's in all of these trucks from the 01' to 04' models. Lyndon will get you set up right with another tuned PCM with all the latest updates from GM. I would not even want to know what it would be like to drive my truck without my Westers tune. That would be bad. Hopefully you will get your new tune soon...

This may be a little off subject, but would the Wester's tune cause warranty concerns or is it a "don't ask, don't tell" policy? This is a question I've been meaning to pose for a while

Yeah...GM really wouldn't like it if they knew you had the PCM programmed. When I go in I tell them not to touch it....I use the old....if it's not broke don't fix it routine....I just tell em hey everything is running right I don't want to get a bad program with bugs....then I go into a whole story that I'm a computer programmer, and I know how updates work......it updates you with new bugs.

It's probably overkill, but I would rather bore them with the details of my life, than be without my tune for a week or so while I send it to canada.

BTW...this is the exact reason I kept my core from Wester's.....I have something to send back to him, and I can run my stock PCM with my superchips tune on it, so I can keep my speedo corrected for my tires....again overkill, but I'm anal like that

What is this Westers tune? Will it help my sluggish 01 2500HD 4WD CC LB w/ 6.0 AT? Is it plug in and go? Does my truck have to be brought to the shop for this, or can I install it? Im in CA, and I dont think Westers is here, right? Thanks in Advance.

Matt... I had the same truck as you and 'yes' it Wester's will definitely make a difference. It's a big truck though so don't expect to be racing Trans Ams or anything but, the difference is significant.

Matt, Westers Garage is in Canada. What they do is custom write a special tune for your driving needs and install it in a PCM computer with your VIN code. They mail you the computer, and you swap computers and send back the old one (unless you want to pay the core charge).

They offer a great warranty, and since mine was overwritten by GM, I just have to call Lyndon and tell him that I need another PCM. I'll tell him that I want a few changes over my last tune... The only drawback is that I'll have to pay for shipping.

Tom from TByrne Motorsports is putting together a group purchase right now (check for threads in the LD and HD sections of this forum).

Tom may know about the CA smog check, or you can talk to Lyndon Wester himself. Do a Google search on Westers Garage, and you'll find his webpage.

Absolutly. Many have Wester's tuning in CA and pass easily. Here in MA we have emmissions testing too. Everyone with Wester's tunes, myself included, pass with CLEANER emmissions than stock.
