I get 37,844 which is still a respectable number.

I think it's really poor how magazines decide what's outdated and what isn't. The only reason they say it's outdated is because it's now the oldest design, 'cept for the Ford SD. So what if it hasn't been redesigned in 5 years! It still sells! Look at the 88-98 design, GM kept it for TEN YEARS, they obviously found a formula they felt worked. Ford changed the F-series, what, 3 times in that time period? What truck is the most often customized in the custom truck market? The 88-98 GM full-size. Dodge and Ford owners are moaning because there isn't NEARLY the amount of aftermarket parts for thier trucks compared to the GM trucks of the same years.

The s-10 was the same way, it was 10 years from the roll-out of the first truck until the body change in 1994/1995, and even then it kept the same frame with only minor changes. That new design lasted with only grille changes, until the 2004 MY, not too bad.

yeah GM had it right with the 88-98 trucks, no one will dispute that. they didn't NEED to change it until they did.

I'm thinking it was either Truckin' Magazine or Truck Trend that said the 88-98s were the most popular; #2 is the 99-02; #3 is 03-present; #4 (tie) are 73-87/69-72, and so on.

That's just for GM. I don't know what the numbers are for Ford and Dodge.

I had an '82 Chevy C10 Scottsdale RC LB with the 305 V8, 4-speed auto., dual exhaust with no mufflers, cruise control (yes, this truck had it), and AM/FM stereo. I loved it. What a blast to cruise around town with it. And the funny thing about it was that the engine itself was heavy enough to give it that "raked" look, all while being mostly stock. I think it had around 137k on the clock before my dad sold it to get my brother the 96 Z71 he has now.

I miss that old truck.:D:thumbs::thumbs:

My Dad had a 1981 1-Ton fleet side regular cab with a 454 automatic. It was a great workhorse, it started as a personal truck then became the work truck for his construction company. It had 850,000 miles when it killed itself, shot ATF all over the manifold and went up in a blaze  It was only on it's third engine and was always hauling lots of lumber or rebar, it spent 5 years hauling a gooseneck with a Case 480 skip loader everywhere. Could not hurt that truck at all. I swore I was going to get it from my Dad one day and fix it up, but then he sold it for parts. It had everything too, AC, power everything, and cruise control. The drum brakes on the rear where still the originals and the tranny had only been rebuilt once.
