Please help...About to make a 1500 purchase

I'm looking at purchasing a 1998 C1500 extended cab, bed liner towing package, all power, and I was wondering if I am getting a fair deal. It is a V6, 5 speed with 117,000 highway miles on it, and it's in really good shape. A couple of dings, but runs great and has had two owners. I've got the guy down to $6,000 for it. Is this a good deal? Also, are there any problems I should look out for in the V6s or any problems that might arise from them? What things should I make sure to look over before buying the truck? It's my first truck to own

Thanks,

Nate

I would check for oil leaks, does the clutch feel good, Check all of the fluids (Especially Radiator since it will have DecCool).

Has it been in any accidents?

As far as known problems I'm not sure on the 2WD -- I had a '98 K1500 Extended Cab -- My Driver's door handle had a stress crack and broke into pieces, the passenger side floor board by the blower always leaked water when it rained. I had into the delaer about 5 times for the water leak and they never could fix it.

Those were the only common problems that I'm aware of (Of course the brakes felt spongy) Mine had the 5.7 with Auto. SOrry I'm not sure on the V-6.

Hope this helps. ALso may want to look at the tires for any uneven wear that could indicate suspension or frame problems.

The 4.3 V-6 is EXACTLY the same (bore and stroke) as the 5.7, just short two pistons!

It is a great engine and will last a very long time. I know of one with just over 300k miles on it without trouble.

Unsure about the 5 speed, but make sure your clutch feels good.

If it is a good clean/straight truck, I will buy it for that money, sight unseen.

Natedog,

I own a 94' 4.3L. They are GREAT engines. There arn't any problems with the 4.3L as much as the C/K trucks in general. They are very solid, but there are a few minor things here and there. I myself have changed rotors, AC Compressor and Accumulator, Alternator all basic tune ups. I'm pretty familiar with the motor, so if you ever come across any questions or anything feel free to let me know.

The price seems very fair. My truck blue books about 5200 and I wouldn't even consider less than 7k. I consider my truck to be immaculate condition though.
