GM Duramax Warranty

Hello Everyone,

I'm new to this forum - so please excuse my ignorance. My issue has to do with my 2002 Chevy Silverado Duramax. It was running fine - out of the blue - I get low oil pressue, starts running rough. Take it into the dealer (Bill Heard here in Houston) and they diagnose the problem as bad injectors. Good News !! It is covered by warranty says the service tech guy. Sure enough they start to do the work and say... "few of the injectors have rust on them - bad fuel caused water to get into the fuel lines and therefore WARRANTY DENIED" !!!!! 83K miles on this POS... I am on the phone with Chevy Customer Care program complaining away that this is a defective GM product and should be fixed under warranty.

I think this is such a ripoff - but I'm not sure what my options are !

Anyone out there that can help me out here ?

Thanks...

I'd like to think that if the bad fuel situation was extreme enough to cause your injectors to rust that you would have had the "Water in Fuel" message displayed.Has this ever appeared?

I hear they are getting sticky on the issue. I would keep calling GM and give them an ear full. You can't test the fuel before you put it in your truck, so how can it be your fault. I would also bring up that other manufacturers do not have this problem. I have heard of a different style of injectors they are installing now, ask why that is????

I had a problem with the local Ford dealer. Long story short they made alot of excuses to not warrant a problem. Called Ford direct and gave them wholly h3ll for it and it was warranted soon after. It may take some time, but stick to your guns. I'm sure you're not the first one. Injectors have been being replaced for a few years now, they are just making excuses. Let us know if anything happens and good luck. :D

Good point Frank. Make sure you mention that!

No sir... that message never appeared anywhere !!!

Also - I have 99 Ford Pwrstroke w/160k miles - using same fuel

and not one problem with that truck !!!

I just think it is ridiculous for them to say "bad fuel" caused that -

and for them to say it was WARRANTY and then to backtrack and backout

and say WARRANTY DENIED is just a bad thing for them.

Another thing is now they want $7800 to repair the problem !!! Can you believe that crap ???

Sounds like they're pulling a fast one on you.

I'd definitely go above the dealer's head and tell the higher powers about the message never appearing while also informing them that you have the '99 PSD,get gas for them both at the same place and it has never had that problem.

Keep calm but be firm and stick to your guns. They should work with you on this.

Kinda tough to stay calm on this issue... but I think I'm doing a decent job

so far.

I really have no choice other than to sell the truck "asis" if GM decides to

screw me on this - anyone interested in it ???

My 2002 DA CC quit running right after I cranked it up one day. I had it towed to the dealer. They found a small hole had rusted through the bottom of the fuel filter. The truck had 24,000 miles on it. I had just gotten a TSB notice on the injecters from GM. They said they redesigned the injecters and would replace mine. The dealer fixed mine under warranty, I just had to pay for the fuel filter $84.00. I thought the injecters cost about $500 ea. X 8 =$4,000. I never has a water in fuel warning either.

Get everything in writing. Contact GM and demand to have a GM regional Rep inspect the parts. They should override the idiots down at Bill Heard. (I can't stand that dealership)

I think your first problem is going to "Bill Heard" that place is a complete rip-off. If I was you, I would go to Mac Hiak (not sure on the spelling) but they are on I-10 towards Katy, I beleive you would get much better service - They have always done me right.

Thanks guys for the info. I'm still waiting to hear back from the Chevy Customer Care person. Last time I talked to her she mentioned something about a

"cost assistance" type of situation. I took this as meaning that I would still have to pay something - maybe half ??? I'm still pushing for a complete warranty replacement - but doesn't look like I'm going to get it.

I also have concerns that if I do get this repaired... what if there was other damage done to the engine (low oil pressure) - maybe cylinders damaged or pistons...etc... I would really be in a world of hurt if something else was the case.

Either way - I think I'm done with this Duramax - as much as I like the d**n thing. I can't take a chance on something else going wrong with this - since there is no guarantee GM will honor the 100K warranty.

Anyone else have a take on this ?

Bill Heard is a HORRIBLE dealership. Don't let your experience with them ruin your take on the Duramax. It's a good motor. Have it taken somewhere else. They're trying to screw you. Ask them if a reacharound is included in that $7800 gangbang!

Is that an option for me at this point ??? Can I ask them to put everything back the way it was and take it to another dealer for a second opinion ???

I didn't think that was possible ??? I like that thought... I really wanted to take it to Mac Haik first over here on I-10 - but with the oil pressure so low - I didn't want to take a chance on driving it that far and causing more engine problems.

So me and my bright ideas.... I'll just take it to Bill Heard which is much much closer to me... What an idiot !!!!!

Well guys... It's official... Chevy Customer Care also rejected the warranty info... So it looks like I am screwed... I'm thinking of having them put it all back together then take it to Mak Haik Chevy and have them start all over on it...

Any thoughts ?
