A couple Trailblaze ext questions

Hello all,

 

I have now owned my 03 tb ext for almost a week now and I have a few questions before I call the dealer about them.

 

How well does your A/C work? If I start my truck in the driveway and turn the A/C on, before I put my little boy in his car seat, the A/C is still blowing warm air, it takes until I actually drive for about 1-2 minutes before it starts to blow cold air. However, once it cold it stays real cold.

 

How would you rate your drivers seat? I have and LS model but have the 8 way power seat. The seat feels really firm to me and really lacks any support on the side for my legs. My wife doesn't really like how it feels at all (she didn't sit in it before we bought it, oops!). She says it feels like the seat is crooked and kind of pointed towards the middle of the truck instead of straight.

 

Finally a bumper question, I just notices the other day that the front bumber has a little bit of a wave on the top, just below the grill, has any one had the same problem? did the dealer fix it without too much complaining? I did look at some old posts out there and saw that there was a tsb for it.

 

Other than these few problems I love my new tb, I test drove a bunch until I fould mine with the V8, it has so much more power than the V6. Too bad they don't put that motor in the regular tb. :thumbs:

I drove two or three TB's and at least 3 Envoys before making my choice. A big factor was the seats, as I felt the Envoy had the more comfortable seats. I have been made aware that some owners have upgraded to the Envoy seats by purchasing seats from sellers on Ebay.

 

Yes, I to wish that the V8 was available in the standard wheelbase vehicles.

My A/C stinks also, takes a few to get real cold.

 

Seats - Mine are fine, is the lumbar out to far or up too far for your wife, if so I could see her feeling like that lifted to the side. Do you have two-tone or solid leather seats?

 

Bumper has a TSB. Been to lazy to get mine done. Dealers can't complain about TSBs. You paid 30-40k get your due.

I have the cloth seats, I checked the lumbar support and played with it and its all the way in. I had leather ones in my silverado and they had the ability to move the sides of the seat on the back in so that it fealt a little tighter, if this seat had that I think it would help. I kind of feels like who ever had the truck first may have been a 'large' person and always leaned towards the middle.

 

I guess I will have the dealer check the a/c.

Have you tried setting your A/C to recirculation mode? I've got the auto A/C and it doesn't put the A/C into recirculation mode on it's own, so I have to hit the recirculation button every time I start the truck.

Which will cause the air to get too thin and smell really bad over time. Thats why it does not stay on. I wish it had an auto feature, like my BMW.

i have a question about the wave in the front bumper?

first what does tsb stand for ? and how much would it cost to get this fixed

my warrenty has expired??

TSB = technical service bulletin. In theory, it should be possible to get the dealer to fix problems without an argument if you walk in with a copy of the TSB in question.

 

Concerning the A/C matter, you might want to hop in a new truck on the dealer lot and see how the A/C performs in a car sitting in the sun all day. If you are still not happy, ask the dealer to take a look at it. It is a new truck after all.

my 03 tb lt takes a mile or so to get the air cool....

there is a tsb for it (i had applied, a programming change)... my case was the ac would never cool unless you turned off the engine/key switch and restarted... then everything was fine...

there is also a tsb out concerning a bad pressure switch...

 

my tb is black, it take a few minutes/miles to get comfortable...

 

 

getting dealers to fix things in a tsb works well if you have the tsb number or a copy of it to take with you. beware it can get expensive if your warranty has expired....

 

i recomend www.alldatadiy.com '03 info is not there yet but i subscribed last year for the '02 data... most of it applies to the '03' too....

      I've installed cheap eBay new aftermarket digitizers before.  They work.  Did a bunch of Cadillac CUE (aka Cadillac's MyLink) for someone years ago.  They all worked fine after the repair.    That number 22740886, that is a component part # for GM.  You can use it to search, but its not something that's obtainable at the dealer level.     So pretty much any of these will work - 2015 Colorado Digitizer for sale | eBay

      You can install tailpipes that direct the exhaust sideways vs the OEM one that goes straight back. There are several on the market, do you own research. HOWEVER, you need to make sure the Venturi vents are still intact, otherwise it will throw a engine code. There is a sensor somewhere that detects back pressure on the exhaust. And if it doesn't collect the correct metrics, it will throw the truck into limp mode.

      "Teardown" is complete. Head surfaces are clean and ready, new intake is prepped and ready. Coolant drained and water pump is removed, radiator is removed, new hoses and pump are ready.   The replacement intake is also from a '95 (with I think 260k, the odometer said). Noticeably less pitting where it covers the rear coolant passages. I'm not sure if that's a tribute to more frequent use, more frequent coolant changes/upkeep, or if the intake was machined at some point. But it appears I found a good one.   My coolant hoses were original, and the lower hose still retained the factory spring inside. It's not really rusty, but it's got deposits all over it. Unsure if I should re-install it (will thoroughly clean it first). Someone said hose technology has gotten better since 1995 (has it?) and I don't need the spring. I think modern EPDM is what made those hoses last from 1995-2026, so it's a question of how much suction can the water pump really pull, and will it collapse the hose without a spring?   I'm stopped and waiting for parts, however.   When I first brought the truck home, the fan was intermittently hitting the radiator shroud. I could see someone had monkeyed with the shroud (put a bunch of cardboard as a spacer between the upper/lower shroud halves. Someone said the motor mounts have likely failed and the engine has sagged. I wasn't sure I believed that. The engine is really solid in its mounts: To remove the old intake I *just* nearly permanently welded to the heads with freshly cured RTV and gasket snot two weeks ago, I literally had to use the arms on my lift and a chain with a bolt attached to the intake to pull it loose. It almost picked the front of the truck off the ground before ....scuuuuuuuuuuup.... I could actually hear the gaskets tearing and it broke loose and the whole truck settled back down. Motor barely moved.   SO, those parts I'm waiting on... The lower radiator mounts/bushings had completely failed. The radiator needs to be insulated from the rad support, and the bushings help the rad stand at the correct height. The plastic "baffle" was also destroyed at some point. Someone had attached the shroud to it incorrectly, overlapping a joint that should have been underlapped, creating another suspect issue potentially causing things to hit the fan. Broken tabs, side is busted off, and it's perma-formed/bent where it was jimmied incorrectly.   The baffle? Unobtainum. Long since discontinued from GM, of course. Aftermarket/capa/chinese? Also unobtanium. In GM's infinite wisdom, it appears there are at least two different variations whether the Blazer is 2 or 4 door, and I can't yet tell if they shared the same part with the S-pickups. Plan B, if I can't find a viable used one, will be to create a bracket to re-assemble the critical joint I need to seal a gap with the shroud. But that will bug me, it won't be...perfect.   The water pump bolts appear to have been installed with...plumber's putty. I guess, sure, if it works...? I've found a few "backyard fixes" like that. Someone's been here before....   If I can't find someone to jam bamboo under my fingernails to fill my free time this week I think I'll install the driver's power window motor and replace the rear door speaker that's inop. I've got a genuine GM "9.5" ohm working replacement. Why GM used a non-standard resistance....nevermind. Of course they did, you can get more sound from a cheap factory amp that way.   And the saga goes on...
