stalling

My '99 gmc seirra classic will die on me. When it does it there is a click and everything goes dead for a second then all electronics come back. When I go to start it back I have to crank it a few seconds like it is starving for fuel. This only happens when idling or coming to a stop. When driving down the road it runs fine. I took it to the shop and they could find nothing. They said no codes could be found. Also said possibly ignition switch. To expensive just to be trying something. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I had a simular problem. Intermitant stalling and hesitation. The dist. cap had cracks and corrosion. New cap and rotor took care of it

After checking all of the tune up parts(cap, rotor, wires, plugs, etc.), also check your electrical connections under the hood(battery, grounds,etc.).

If it runs fine besides the stalling at stops or when idiling, it could be an idle circuit problem or something electrical. Also check the fuel pressure and fuel pressure regualtor, and look for vacuum leaks.

Did you ever notice that when a vehicle has a problem(stalling, running rough, etc.)there isn't always a check engine lt or a code stored, but when it's running fine the light comes on? Used to drive me nuts when I was a tech.

I'm glad you bought up the fuel issue 'budhayes3', however my sympoms where hard to start sometimes, and motor sometimes stalling while braking or coming off the gas real quick. This was my Impala, and turned out to be my fuel regulator.

Just something to add to the check list.

Now that sounds electrical. How's the condition of the charging system? Good battery, cables, alt. etc. Or, there's a fuel pump issue, and turning the lights on stole votage that the fuel pump needed. Check the condition of all the grounds/wiring for green mold and make sure you have good connections.

There should be a fuel pump and or EFI relay some where, be sure to inspect those also. Check the fuse box for mold and signs of arcing...burnt connections, etc.
