Hello all. I am new to the group. I just bought a '99 Silverado 2500 4x4 Crew Cab. I have had one Silverado before this ('99 1500 Z71). I was wondering about options for getting better gas mileage. The guy who had it before me put in dual exhaust that appears to be from the cat. back (two mufflers). What else is there? K&N filter?

NICE TRUCK!

Just wanted to make sure that it has the 6.5 Turbo Diesel,I saw the two big holes in the bumper which gives it away but I wanted to make sure someone didn't add it for looks!

Huh?!? No it's the 5.7. The two holes in the front of the bumper are for tow hooks. No holes in the back (dual side exhaust though).

Just what I thought,someone before you changed the bumper,that bumper is for the trucks with the 6.5 Diesel motors,it has two holes in it for cooling, not for tow hooks(they are mounted below the bumper),that is why I thought it had the 6.5 Diesel and I wanted to make sure before I made any suggestions.

The exhaust is a good start as anyone else will tell you,try a K&N for sure,you might even want to try a K&N FIPK kit,and I also have had good luck with a Hypertech Power Programmer for a little extra power without sacrificing mileage,also depending on how many miles are on the truck try changing the plugs,I would not go to the recommended 100,000 miles,in my opinion thats just to long,on my last two trucks(a '99 K1500 new body style and a '97 K1500 old body style) I changed plugs (with the same thing that came in them: AC-Delco)around 60,000 miles and noticed an increase in gas mileage right away.
