2001/2002 4x4

I'm looking at buying a used 2001 or 2002 4wd Silverado. I've noted that some of the pickups' VINs start with a "1" and some with a "2". Does that delineate where they're built? Also, can anyone provide feedback on the push button 4wd system. I had a '93 Z-71 with the conventional "4wd lever" on the floor that worked great. Is the push button system reliable or should I try and find one with the conventional lever?

I like the Auto4WD button... it's fun to play with in the rain and on the trail. I don't even have to worry about needing to choose, I let the computer do it for me. It helps out with take off in the rain on the street in Auto4WD too. I know a lot of people whine about not having the lever, and that the AutoTrac is weaker, suceptible to water more, etc etc etc. I like mine and don't have a complaint about it.................
