HELP!!!  Does anyone own a MY2000 mod. Silverado!

I've got a MY2000 Silverado (one made in late '99) Ext. Cab Z71 Victory Red/Pewter and I was wondering if anyone knows how to turn off the Automatic headlights on these.  I know that on '99 models you can start the truck with the parking brake on and it overrides the system and on '00-'02s (not MY2000's) I've been told you can push the dome override button 4 times and that overrides the system...  Neither method works on my truck  and anyone who has one of these and knows how to turn them off I will so greatly appreciate your knowledge!!!  Thanks,

Welcome Will,

R&D Products sells an override switch for your truck.  MountaineerTom (one of our moderators) has it in his truck.  There are also alot of guys here that have somehow bypassed the auto headlight feature completely by doing something to the sensor on the dash.

Yes, I have the kit Shaners mentioned.  Here's a link to my site with some info and pics of the installation.  R&D Auto Headlight Override Switch  With this kit, you have the option on turning them on and off when ever you want.  The only down side its it's $80.00.

Here's a link to some instructions on how to do it with minimal cost, but it's pretty much permanent, meaning you lose the auto headlight feature altogether (unless you undo all the steps, then you get the feature back.).  You'll have manual control over your headlights all the time.  I'm not possitive if this will work with the 2000's built in late 1999 or not.  Neil's auto headlight disabling intructions

Dex857, one of our members at this site, went a step further with Neil's instructions and added a switch, which basically makes it like the R&D kit.  Dex857 switch installation

You may know already and have tried this, but see if your trucks lights can be disabled by pushing the dome override button several times within 4 or 5 seconds.  There is a certain amount of times it needs to be depressed with in a certain number of seconds, but I can't remember what it is.  Something like 4 times with in 5 seconds, or something like that.

Good luck.

Thanks ya'll.  I appreciate all the help.  I transferred from PUTC where I could not get any help with anything...Ya'll are so much friendlier over here...LOL  I won't be able to do anything to my truck until I okay it with my dad, though  :( But wish me luck!  LOL  I'll put a pic of it on the site sooner or later...  Thanks again!

On my truck if you push the dome light overide button 3 times, it overides the DRL and headlights.  The only pain is that you must do this every time you start the truck, but if you just want to overide the lights once in a while, it will save you from wasting 80 bucks.

Some time midway through the 2000 model year, GM implemented that feature.  Unfortunately the '99 and some early '00's can't do that.  I wish they did though.  :(

I've a 97 C1500 EXT cab Silverado and although it doesn't have the automatic headlights, it's the DRL I'm not fond of. Does anyone know a way to disable it? It would've been nice if the DRL were on the parking lights, it would give the truck a more intimidating look.

I don't know of any way to disable the DRL's that are integrated into the headlights.  Maybe some others can help.  If I do find any info, I'll be sure and pass it your way.
