Tailgate cables

The only contact I have is the origanl recall letter. Nobody has said anything about the replacement cables being available yet (at least around here)...

I called the dealer I have been dealing with for years and inquired about them. He told me that GM told them to expect them at the end of the 3rd quarter. So we are getting close. They should be arriving within a month or so if they are on time. :)

I was unloading my ATV tonight and both straps broke, causing the ramp to slide off the tailgate, send me and the ATV side ways...Stuck the foot out in time and managed to keep right-side up. Nothing major but a few scratches on the tailgate...

Going to contact the dealership and ask if the replacements are in...

The straps were completely rusted at the break point....

When I got my new truck last weekend, I asked about them and the dealer said GM isn't done producing enough to send out yet. He said a few more months.

Right..The letter was nice.

I am all flattered that they send me a form letter telling me there might be a problem. What am I supposed to do until they send the fix...Not use the tailgate? Remocve the tailgae when using the truck for loading things?

I bought a truck to use it, not to keep it around and wait for the recall part to show-up. What is the hold up anyway? It is a cable with a couple of hooks on the ends. How many months do they need to tool up and build inventory? It probably comes from China anyway...Just tell them to work 18 hr shifts...

Yeah, I konw it really a bites having to spend 20 seconds removing the tailgate to keep yourself from injury. Even after being told not to do so and that it will happen! Wheres your sign!!!!

I just got another letter today (the actual safety recall letter) along with a reimburstment claim form (if you have replaced yours if they broke). Looks like I need to make some time to take it in now

The letter also says they will inspect the tailgate hinges and replace (free) if necessary

Cool as I did pay to get some fixed on a 2000 Silverado we had.

Here in the Southeast the new cables are in, but in a somewhat limited supply. Get the Dealer to check campaign # 04007 and check the part numbers they have in stock.
