allison external trans filter

i heard your supposed to change the allison external trans filter

at 3000 miles is this true i thought i read this but cant find it

again any help thanks

The owners manual says to change the filter and fluid every 25,000 miles but it does not say which filter (since there are two)but I would assume it means to change both.

We have quite a few customers here at the dealership that changes just the external filter every 10 to 15,000 miles and tops of the fluid then does a complete flush and changes both filters around 30,000 miles.

i was told buy my dealer when i bought it but i cant find

it in writing anywere.first 3000miles no more no less

A GM tech on the dieselplace www site says 5K and that is when I changed mine as well as the rear end lube.

You NEVER need to change the internal filter unless the tranny is being overhauled. The external filter should be changed at 5K and then every 25K after that if you're towing,and 50K if you're not.

Maybe I am reading it wrong but it shows changing the filter at 5K. That is what I did.. Only complaint was the price of the filter.. $28....

You must have bought the filter at the dealer. If you buy the filter from an Allison shop you'll only pay about $7 per filter.
