Here is the latest. I talked to a service tech in Naperville, IL on Thursday. Very nice man and very knowledgable. After about 20 minutes of discussion he suggested I needed to replace my EGR.

I went to my dealer today and talked to the service manager, relating my Thursday discussion. All of a sudden he became very interested. He personally took my truck out for a spin with his top mechanic and my laptop and Autotap. After 30 minutes they returned and informed me that I needed to make an appointment to bring the truck in to be fixed.

Finally after 2 years I have someone at the dealership that admits my truck runs bad and can be fixed. I am taking it in Monday. I told them to keep it as long as it takes to fix it.

I don't know if the call to Detroit and Naperville got this response or the fact that I finally got to talk directly to the service manager and got him to drive the truck. The Autotap was a big help. It is hard to argue with a graphic display of the problem.

I will let you know the final outcome when I get the truck back next week. And again thanks for everybody's input over the last few days. This site is really great.

ps. For those thinking about new exhausts the GM tech and the service manager both commented on these trucks need for some backpressure to run right. They didn't say directly that my dual 2.5s and headers were a problem(this started before their install), but they did mention the backpressure issue.

RW,

I'm glad to see you finally have turned some heads.  I believe (as I posted earlier) that the EGR valve could be the culprit.  However, I would want the tech's to look hard and deep into the situation because it's been going on for so long.  Your computer has been trying to adjust for soom condition for a long time and it will have to be reset...  just disconnect the neg. cable for about 15 minutes if they don't do it for you after the work is completed.

I'm happy for you, and after 2 years I'm sure you'll really start to love your truck!!!
