Where to spend my money

I was wondering what is the first performance mod I should buy. I have done all the free mods which are basically all for intake so I figure the weak link now is exhaust, maybe cutting the cats, headers or muffler. I've heard mixed reviews about e-fans so I don't know where to go. Bear in mind supercharging (for now) is out of the question as I am on a fairly limited budget. I have a 1999 5.3 2wd ext cab. with 160,000 miles. Thanks for your $.02

I'd hate to say it, but with 160,000 miles on your current engine, I'd start saving money for a new engine combo, like maybe a 383 stroker or something. Your current engine isn't gonna last once you start throwing big add ons like a supercharger at it.

Just look at it this way, you wouldn't enter a 15 year old horse into the Kentucky derby would you???

Yeah I know what you mean. It is a workhorse but it's not 15 its a 99. I'n not really looking for a supercharger I meant things more like e fans, headers, chip, stuff like that.

Anything is possible, you even stuffed a V8 into an S10. Besides, frdfandc said "new engine combo", not "stroke the 5.3.

Back on topic-

maximumrebel1, I would start with a custom tune from someone like PCMforless.com, Westers, or Nelsons. They can do quite a bit for your rig.

That's my .02 anyway.

i would suggest putting on a cat back System. A flo master part number 17255 should fit good. Summit Racing has them for about 309.00. just a thought.

I think somebody needs a time out

as for mods if your set on keeping that motor you should definately take wingnuts advice but if you don't have a lot of cash to throw around a chip and new performence exaust system should give you a few ponies some new gears wouldn't hurt either. Those are the most inexpensive mods I can think of right now.

I think MR ZR2 Man nees a new board to post on. All I ever see him do is harass people on this site.

Diablo Predator would be a far cry better than the Hypertech. Its hard to say how much of a gain you sill see. But you will be able to tell a difference. BUT, a custom tune such as a Westers or Nelsons will yield far greater results!

Not to rehash it but I never bashed his truck. He was the one saying that I was ing. Anyway I defintly would not retract the comment you made. But if the quarrel is over then thats cool with me. Just for the record I think Zr2's truck is pretty sweet a 350 with a lot of mods is never bad. Just settin it straight. Vote for Bush By the way thanks for the help.
