Engine Swap

Have you found out anything yet, Thomas? I don't have an answer, but I've got a similar problem. My 5.7 died the other day and the dealer says I need a new one.

I'd rather not spend the money putting a stock 5.7 back into the engine compartment if I can help it.

I have not found out anything. My next option is to contact companies like JET Performance and the like to get a custom computer chip.

Thanks for the reply. I wound up yanking my truck from the dealer and started looking for a performance shop. I'm not totally convinced that the engine isn't saveable, so I may end up having it rebuilt and modified.

If you want to find a chip for the stock 5.7 in your '98, I can tell you that I used the Superchips programmer and it worked really well for me. I've read that it's better than the Superchips programmer. There is a company that will swap computers with you and do a custom program, but I forget the name.

Good Luck,
