vaccum canister

Hi;

Does anyone know if the vaccum canister in the emissions system on a 2000 Silverado can be taken apart and cleaned? I had the hoses off mine and there was alot of sand that came out and I would like to clean the filter thats inside it. It looks like it will come apart but I thought I would ask before I break it. If anyone has done this before could you please tell me how you got it apart. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Are you talking about the charcoal canister? If so, I'm almost positive that it is not servicable and the sand that is coming would be the charcoal that stores the fuel vapors when the engine is shut off. Hope this helps some.

Hi;

Yes its the charcoal canister. I'm getting light colored sand out of it. The vent valve filter was completely plugged and I was getting a ses light with code p0446. I'm just wondering if this canister can come apart to be cleaned??

Thanks.
