I had a 2000 Silverado that developed a squeal in the power steering but only on left hand turns. After I traded up for a 2003, about 6 months went by and the new one developed the same problem. In addition to that, both vehicles have developed a peculiar knock in the steering that I notice especially when entering my driveway. I took it in and both problems were fixed under warranty with both vehicles. Since my wife picked the new one up from the service center, she forgot to ask what caused these problems. Has anyone else had similar problems? I'm particularly interested in what's causing the knock when entering my driveway.

Intermediate Steering Shaft, located between the column and gear box causes the knock in the steering. Look at your invoice to see if the shaft was greased or the new updated shaft was installed. Greasing was the prior fix but GM recently came out with the new shaft. The new shafts have been on back order as of this week due to high demand. If you didn't get the new shaft take it back for the new one before your warranty runs out.

You should always get a copy of the warranty repairs (invoice) that will explain what was done. Whether you got a copy of your invoice listing the repairs is one of the questions GM asks when you get a warranty survey. Keep those for your records.
