04 GMC Paint Problems

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have a 04 GMC crew cab. The paint on the rear of the cab is too thin! YOu can see speckles of primer through the paint. I have talked to the dealer and they are going to repaint the sectyions that show thinness.

my question is:

Should I push to get the entire truck repainted?

I am thinking that the paint may not neccessarily match because of quality, thickness ect..

Let me know of some of your opinions...

Thanks

I wouldn't necessarily worry about getting the whole thing painted, but go over it with a magnifying glass (literal or figurative, take your pick) and make sure they get the whole affected area. I've had good luck with the last three vehicles that have had blended paint jobs, as long as the body shop is a competent one.

Same here. A decent body shop can really do some amazing repairs to newly painted areas. Actually, this should have been caught by the make-ready guys and painted before even the sales droid had seen the truck. Folks would be surprised, I think, how often a new vehicle is touched up by a body shop before it is released.

I would tell them to give me a new truck.  Why should your BRAND new truck be painted?

HEH, Tungsten. Just for grins, next time you are at your dealer's, ask them to print out a historical record of repairs or adjustments on your truck. Sometimes it is amazing what is revealed what was done before the truck went out on the lot.

Thanks for the info. I dont want a new truck, I like mine and it has no other problems. Hopefully the body dhop is good. I am thinking about getting my mirrors and fender flares painted at the same time. We shall see.........

the only problem with having the body shop do it as opposed to having the original factory job (at least this is what I've been told) is that the paint is baked on at the factory, and you can't get that elsewhere... not sure if that's true or not. anyway, i wouldn't have them do the whole truck from the start. have them do the problem area first and see how it comes out. if they do a good job and it does not match the rest of the truck for some reason, have them do the rest of it maybe?

i had the dealer's body shop work on a paint dimple on the roof of my yukon before I took delivery in 2000 and they totally f'ed it up. it looks terrible, and i think they took off some of the clear coat. at least it was on the roof and i usually don't even remember it's there, but for the first month I had it, I sure paid attention to it. love my truck though -- glad I have it.
