GMAC Insurance

I just got a "flyer" in the mail yesterday for GMAC insurance on my Sierra. One thing that stood out is they use only factory parts and on new trucks pay replacement value not cash value (not sure what they do after it's a year old). Anyway does anyone have GMAC on their trucks? If so how do you like it?

Thanks

Actually a good question. I used State Farm because they have been a good advocate for me, and basically, addressed all of my concerns. But, GMAC could be advantageous, especially if you are using a GMAC loan. Anyway, try this URL:

Thanks I will take a look at that WWW page. They also mentioned they gave a discount (forgot the amount) for Onstar as well. I need to see if they also insure ATVs as well since I have my Sportsman on with my Sierra.

I use State Farm too, they are good on prices for me, got a clean record. I got hit by a motorcycle right after I bought my truck. The body shop I took it to did a sub par job fixing the truck, so I complained to State Farm and they got my truck fixed to my standards with no hassle. They fought with the body shop for me and everything. Just a thought for ya, and the GMAC stuff seemed high to me when I bought ther truck.

I've had too many bad experiences with State Farm. :jester: I now have GMAC. Been with them for a couple years now. Pretty happy with them so far. Before that I was with Progressive for 6 years. From my experience, they were true to thier name. The progressively raised their rates every year. :lurk: Sad thing was I hadn't had any accidents, tickets or claims during that time. When I quoted GMAC, they were about 1/2 the price of Progressive. Switching was a no-brainer.

Thanks carguru... have you had to file any claims with them yet, if so any problems? I liked how they say only factory parts are used in repairs plus they will give a discount for my Onstar. Do you know if they also cover ATVs as well?

Are they new parts or harvested old parts. Didn't Ford get caught a while back when using the Greenleaf (sp?) network to obtain Ford salvage parts for which customers were charged full value?

Well, State Farm has indeed been good for me, but that means NOTHING as far as recommending them or anything. Start Farm is only good as its agent. The agent in this town is honestly good. Been very pleased with her.

I really feel this is basically true with all the insurance carriers.

I have yet to make any claim with them yet. I have heard that GMAC is pretty good from someone else that is with them. Out of the 6 years with Progressive, I filed one claim, but never really used it because it was found that the dealership was liable for the damage (that is another wonderful story :lurk: ). The bad thing was they jacked my rates up every payment time. By the time I ditched them, I was paying $400 more per year with no claims.

With State Farm, my family used to use State Farm. The agents were pretty decent. However, State Farm was pretty bad when it came to claims. We had a car that was financed (meaning that it was full coverage, plus we had low deductibles) that was destroyed by a falling tree. At first, State Farm told us that it was not covered, once that was resolved, they said that they wanted to repair the car (car was pretty much cut in half by the tree), then after the claim, they decided they did not want our business anymore (after 20 years with them with only a couple of windshield claims over the period). :jester: To her credit, the agent fought for us during this entire time. My family still buys insurance from this agent, but different carrier.

I guess that is true you need a good agent, but they can only do so much if the parent company says "no" there is not a lot they can do about it. Thankfully I have not had to "use" my insurance so don't really know how good my current one is when push comes to shove. I still find it amazing that you are buying something (insurance) and then when you use it (claims) they either raise your rates or cancel you. :fume:

As I mentioned earlier, State Farm has been very efficient for me, due to the local agent. Car issues have always been resolved very quickly with a follow-up form given regarding the quality of the repair and insurance service.

The following tree in the earlier message brought up another issue that I had. My mother ran into my truck with the tractor. Not a hard hit, but it did cost $640 in damage. HER State Farm used the Home Owners Insurance to pay for the damage on my truck. That's a new one .....

Interesting.... I've heard of an auto insurance going after a home owner's to collect money (like a tree falls on the car) but not sure how they group the tractor into it.. My ATV is carried by the same company that covers my truck but considered a seperate policy. I found out that GMAC does not insure ATVs tho, so have to still think about them
