Time to replace brake pads

I have an '02 2500HD and it's time to replace the brake pads. I normally do this type of job myself. Is there any reason I can't do it on this truck, too?

 

Are aftermarket pads readily available?

 

Also, I've heard rumblings about the parking brake having it's own pad or shoe...??? Any information on this?

i dont see why you cant tackle this yourself. are you doing pads all around or just front? dont know much about the e-brake. also, make sure you buy good bads at the dealer or wagner brand. cheap auto part store pads likely will wear fast and squeal.

You should be able to change them yourself. You'll have to pull the whole caliper assembly off the rears to get the rotors off to change the e-brake pads. Might as well do them too while your at it. I'm not exactly sure what kind of pads came from the factory, but I intend to use the same ones when mine is due. They are wearing very good and no brake dust. I can't stand brake dust!

Some guys have the rotors resurfaced and some don't. It should take you about a six-pack! Don't forget to lube the caliper bolts.

And open the bleeder before pushing the piston back . . . it's bad form to force fluid backwards through the ABS system.
